The following interview was conducted with Al Gross.

How would you describe your style of music?

A combination of Roots Rock, Rockabilly and Americana but with a modern flair.

How did you get into this style of music?

Always loved it.  I decided to revisit it and it turned out to be a perfect fit for the Bottle Cap Rockets.

How did you come up with your band name?

I was on youtube one day and came across a video of a kid making a bottle cap rocket (you crush a plastic bottle of spring water until the cap pops off, that's it, funny he needed a video to explain it).  I liked the sound of it, Bottle Cap Rockets, it has a nice ring.  As it turns out,  no other band comes up in a search online with the same name.

What is the background of your band members?

Chris Wolfer has been in bands since he was a kid.  Chris started as a drummer and eventually took up bass.  He also plays guitar, banjo and keyboards.  He has been playing bass for the Bottle Cap Rockets since 2011.  Mike Fumento has traveled the world, playing drums with many bands over the years.  Mike is the newest member.  He officially joined in April of this year, 2014.

Who are they as individuals?

Both Mike and Chris are highly skilled and talented musicians.  Chris is very layed back, no drama with Chris.  He is very creative and detail oriented and just a great all around guy.  Chris is always working on his skills as a bass player and a singer.  He is very band minded and he sees the bigger picture and understands the process as far as the evolution of a band.  A lot of past members did not see the bigger picture like Chris does.  Mike is also very creative and detail oriented.  The success of this band is it's chemistry.  It took a very long time to have a perfect fit between the three band members.  We all see eye to eye in many areas and this is what makes this band fun and conflict free.

How long has your band been together?

The original inception was in 2010 but it wasn't until Chris joined in September of 2011 that BCR really started.

What do you like the most about the Rockabilly scene?

Playing in front of a live audience.  I also love the look, the clothes the cars and the vibe.

Who are your music idols, who influences your music?

There are many but , Brian Setzer and Jeff Beck are at the top.  They both continue to amaze me as musicians.  I also love Imelda May.  She puts that soulful vibe that you find in music from the distant past into everything that she does.  I love her version of "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell.  It demonstrates her band's talents and versatility.

What furture events do you have planned?

We have a number of shows through the end of September.  We are hoping to get back into the studio by the end of the year.

Do your band members have day jobs or do they make their dime as professional musicians?

We all have day jobs.

If day jobs, what type of work do they do?

Chris is an art teacher and Mike a music teacher at the same High School.  I am a graphic designer.

What is your most memorable experience at a concert?

Playing in Doylestown, Pa during a cruise night this past July. There were people dancing on a one story roof top just behind the band and folks really getting into the band during the whole event.  The restaurant that hired us asked us to play two more hours on top of the three that we were hired for.  I wish that more gigs were like that.

What was your funniest memory at a concert?

We were playing The Stanhope House in Stanhope, NJ.  They put us on an old warped, broken down stage that nearly caved in while we played.  Our drummer's floor tom and cymbal stand fell down and the drums were rolling around as we continued to play.  It was both funny and pathetic.

Is there anything that you would like to add about yourself or your band?

Hire us for a show!  We kick ass!  And buy our downloads!  We Sound Awesome!

Last but not least, what makes this band tick?

Sheer determination to succeed in doing what we do.  We believe in this band and we're just waiting for the rest of the world to discover us.  So check out Bottle Cap Rockets, people!

The heart and soul of Bottle Cap Rockets is steeped in the earliest form of Rock n' Roll, but this group does not pretend to be a "time capsule" resurrection.  Though true to it's roots, BCR has it's own style and sound.  The band was formed by singer/songwriter and guitarist Al Gross in early 2010.  bassist/backing vocalist, Chris Wolfer and drummer Mike Fumento complete the line up.  "First Seven" is the band's 2012 debut release, available on itunes, and CD Baby. A new release is in the works for late 2014.  Based in Ringwood, New Jersey, Bottle Cap Rockets has gained a strong reputation in the tri-state area.
